{"id":269,"date":"2025-05-28T21:58:20","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T21:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/calib.pw\/?p=269"},"modified":"2025-05-30T11:53:21","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T11:53:21","slug":"cms-demands-data-from-hospitals-providing-pediatric-transgender-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calib.pw\/index.php\/2025\/05\/28\/cms-demands-data-from-hospitals-providing-pediatric-transgender-care\/","title":{"rendered":"CMS demands data from hospitals providing pediatric transgender care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) sent letters Wednesday to hospitals that provide transgender care services to children, demanding data on their quality standards and finances.<\/p>\n<p>CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz sent letters to \u201cselect hospitals,\u201d giving them 30 days to provide specific information on \u201cmedical interventions for gender dysphoria in children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are irreversible, high-risk procedures being conducted on vulnerable children, often at taxpayer expense,\u201d Oz said in a statement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHospitals accepting federal funds are expected to meet rigorous quality standards and uphold the highest level of stewardship when it comes to public resources\u2014we will not turn a blind eye to procedures that lack a solid foundation of evidence and may result in lifelong harm,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>In Wednesday&#8217;s letters, Oz cited the Trump administration\u2019s unsigned report <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/lgbtq\/5277822-trump-hhs-report-transgender-youth-gender-affirming-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued this month<\/a> that questioned the evidence in support of gender-affirming care for children and adolescents. It advocated for a greater reliance on psychotherapy to treat gender dysphoria.<\/p>\n<p>The report\u2019s findings were in contradiction of what major medical organizations, like the American Medical Association, recommend.<\/p>\n<p>Pointing to the report, Oz wrote it was the position of the CMS that interventions for gender dysphoria like hormone therapy or puberty blockers were initiated with an \u201cunderdeveloped body of evidence, [and] lack reliable evidence of benefits for minors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oz requested that the hospitals provide information on their policies and procedures regarding informed consent for minors determining making life-changing decisions; any changes they plan to make in response to the Trump administration\u2019s report; and any adverse events related to gender dysphoria procedures.<\/p>\n<p>He also asked for \u201ccomplete financial data for all pediatric sex trait modifications that were paid for part or in full by the federal government.&#8221; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) sent letters Wednesday to hospitals that provide transgender care services to children, demanding data on their quality standards and finances.
